The Koraput district was founded on April 1, 1936, on the background of the fresh green valley of Niskal.  Surrounded by forests, waterfalls, Thack Thacke-inspired valleys and bustling streams, the district attracts nature-loving people.
 It is bounded on the east by Rayagada, on the west by Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, and on the south by Malkangiri district.
 Koraput became a district in 1936

        The district also has many tourist attractions  Such as- Gupteswar Shiva Peetha, Shabar Shrikshetra, Tribal Museum, Jaipur, Duduma Falls, Kolab Dam, Damanyodi, Jainpith, Maliguda Railway Tunnel etc.  All these places attract tourists from all over the state and from all over the state.
